Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: March 30, 2026

This policy describes how refunds and cancellations work for Lexora Languages subscriptions. Please read it carefully before purchasing a subscription.

1. General Refund Policy

Your statutory rights are not affected by this policy. If you are located in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal as described in Section 2. Additional statutory consumer protection rights may apply depending on your jurisdiction. Subject to these statutory rights, subscription purchases are generally final once the applicable withdrawal or cancellation period has expired.

We encourage you to use our free tier to explore the Service before committing to a paid plan. The free tier provides access to core features so you can evaluate whether Lexora is right for you.

2. European Union and United Kingdom Right of Withdrawal

EU / EEA Consumers

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal under the Consumer Rights Directive (Directive 2011/83/EU). The withdrawal period begins on the day the contract is concluded (i.e., the date of your subscription purchase). You may cancel your subscription within 14 days of purchase without giving any reason.

If you wish to begin using paid features of the Service immediately (before the 14-day withdrawal period has expired), you must provide your express prior consent to the digital service being provided before the end of the withdrawal period and acknowledge that you understand this will affect your right of withdrawal. Because the Service is a continuous subscription (rather than a one-time digital content delivery), the service cannot be "fully performed" during the withdrawal period. Accordingly, if you withdraw after having used the Service with your express prior consent, you will be liable to pay us an amount proportional to what has been provided until the time you informed us of your withdrawal. This consent is requested during the subscription process via a separate, prominent confirmation.

The proportional amount will be calculated on the basis of the total price agreed in the contract, pro-rated by the number of days of service used. You will receive a refund for the remaining unused portion.

If you have subscribed but have not used any paid features and have not expressly consented to early performance, you may request a full refund by contacting us at support@lexoralanguages.com within 14 days of your purchase. Refunds under this right will be processed within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal request, using the same payment method you used for the original transaction.

Important: If we fail to inform you of your right of withdrawal before the contract is concluded, the withdrawal period is extended by 12 months from the end of the original 14-day period.

UK Consumers

If you are located in the United Kingdom, you have a 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. The same conditions and proportional refund provisions described above for EU consumers apply.

Additionally, under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, if the digital service is not of satisfactory quality, fit for a particular purpose, or as described, you have the right to: (a) request that the service be brought into conformity (the equivalent of repair or replacement) within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience; (b) if bringing the service into conformity is not possible or does not resolve the issue within a reasonable time, request a proportionate price reduction; or (c) in appropriate cases, terminate the contract and obtain a refund for any unused portion of the prepaid period.

How to Withdraw

To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must inform us of your decision by a clear statement (e.g., by email to support@lexoralanguages.com). You may use the following model withdrawal form, but it is not obligatory:

"To Lexora Languages, 251 Main Street, Suite 300, Boston, Massachusetts 02129, United States (support@lexoralanguages.com): I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the provision of the following service: [Lexora subscription plan]. Ordered on: [date]. Name: [your name]. Address: [your address]. Email: [your email address]. Date: [today's date]."

Post-purchase confirmation: After completing your subscription purchase, you will receive a confirmation email on a durable medium (email) containing: a summary of your subscription terms, a reminder of your right of withdrawal (including the model withdrawal form), cancellation instructions, and contact details. This is provided in accordance with Article 8 of the EU Consumer Rights Directive and Regulation 13 of the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

3. Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or the Stripe billing portal. In accordance with the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act (ROSCA, 15 U.S.C. §§ 8401–8405), the cancellation process is available online, is as simple as the sign-up process, and does not require you to speak with a representative, endure a sales pitch, or navigate unnecessary steps. Cancellation is available in the same medium (online) used for the original transaction, as required by California Business and Professions Code § 17602. When you cancel:

  • You will receive a confirmation email acknowledging your cancellation.
  • Your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing period.
  • You will continue to have access to paid features until the billing period expires.
  • After the billing period ends, your account will revert to the free tier.
  • No further charges will be made after cancellation.

4. Auto-Renewal Disclosure

Paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) unless you cancel before the renewal date. Before your first payment is processed, the auto-renewal offer terms (including price, billing frequency, and cancellation method) will be presented clearly and conspicuously, and you must provide your affirmative consent to those terms before being charged. This is required by the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act (ROSCA, 15 U.S.C. §§ 8401–8405) and California Business and Professions Code §§ 17600–17606 (as amended by AB 2863, effective July 1, 2025). The same disclosure and consent requirements apply to free-to-paid conversions. You will receive a confirmation email on a durable medium at the time of your initial purchase that includes the renewal terms, price, billing frequency, and cancellation instructions. You may cancel auto-renewal at any time through your account settings or the Stripe billing portal, and cancellation will take effect at the end of the current billing period.

5. Annual Renewal Reminders

For subscribers on annual plans, we will send a renewal reminder email between 15 and 30 days before each annual renewal date, including the current renewal price, billing frequency, the deadline by which you must cancel to avoid being charged, and instructions on how to cancel. This window complies with California Business and Professions Code § 17602(b), New York General Obligations Law § 5-903 (which requires 15 to 30 days' notice), and similar requirements in other jurisdictions.

6. California Auto-Renewal Disclosure

If you are a California resident, the following disclosures apply pursuant to California Business and Professions Code sections 17600–17606 (as amended by AB 2863, effective July 1, 2025): Your subscription will automatically renew at the then-current rate unless you cancel before the renewal date. Cancellation can be done at any time through your account settings or the Stripe billing portal — the cancellation process is as simple as the sign-up process, and is available in the same medium (online) as the original transaction. You will receive a confirmation email at the time of your initial purchase detailing the renewal terms, price, and billing frequency. We retain proof of your affirmative consent to auto-renewal terms for at least 3 years or 1 year after termination, whichever is longer. We will also send you an annual reminder of your ongoing subscription, including the current renewal price, billing frequency, the deadline by which you must cancel to avoid the next charge, and instructions on how to cancel. If you upgrade from the free plan to a paid plan, the same disclosure and consent requirements apply.

7. Plan Changes

You may upgrade or downgrade your subscription plan at any time. Plan changes take effect according to Stripe's standard proration behavior:

  • Upgrades take effect immediately, and the price difference is prorated for the remainder of your billing period.
  • Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing period.

8. Billing Disputes

If you believe you were charged in error or have a question about a charge, we encourage you to contact us at support@lexoralanguages.com so we can help resolve the issue. We will work with you to resolve any billing issues promptly and are committed to finding a fair resolution. Resolving issues directly with us is typically faster and easier than going through the formal dispute process with your financial institution. You always retain the right to dispute charges with your bank or credit card company.

9. Refund Processing

Where a refund is approved, it will be issued to the original payment method used for the purchase. Refunds are typically processed within 5 to 10 business days after initiation, depending on your payment provider. For refunds arising from the EU/UK right of withdrawal, we will initiate the refund within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal request, as required by law. You will receive a confirmation email when your refund has been initiated.

If your original payment method is no longer available (e.g., expired card or closed account), we will work with Stripe to attempt the refund to the replacement card on file with your bank. If that is not possible, we will contact you to arrange an alternative refund method. In all cases, you will not be charged any fees for receiving a refund.

10. Data After Cancellation

When your subscription ends (whether by cancellation or non-renewal), your account will revert to the free tier. Your learning progress and account data will be retained in accordance with our Privacy Policy. If you delete your account entirely, your personal data will be removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

11. EU/UK Digital Content Non-Conformity Remedies

If you are located in the EU/EEA or UK and the Service does not conform to the contract (for example, if it is not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, or as described), you have the following rights under the EU Digital Content Directive (2019/770) and the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, separate from and in addition to the right of withdrawal:

  • Right to conformity: You may request that we bring the Service into conformity within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you, free of charge.
  • Price reduction or termination: If bringing the Service into conformity is not possible or is not achieved within a reasonable time, you may request a proportionate reduction in price or terminate the contract entirely.
  • Refund on termination: If you terminate due to non-conformity, you are entitled to a refund proportionate to the remaining unused portion of your prepaid subscription period. Refunds will be processed within 14 days using the same payment method.
  • Data retrieval: Upon termination for non-conformity, you may request an export of your personal data and learning progress in a commonly used, machine-readable format, free of charge, in accordance with Article 16 of Directive 2019/770.

12. Exceptions

In exceptional circumstances (such as extended service outages caused by us or duplicate charges due to a billing error), we may issue refunds or credits on a case-by-case basis. To request a review, contact us at support@lexoralanguages.com. We will consider all requests fairly, taking into account the specific circumstances.

13. Statutory Rights

Nothing in this policy is intended to limit or exclude any statutory rights you may have under the consumer protection laws of your jurisdiction. Where any provision of this policy conflicts with mandatory consumer protection law, the mandatory law prevails.
